    Mr. Lowell Minton Rhodes, age 78, a resident of River Trace Nursing Home Washington, NC, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

    A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 7, 2014 in the chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Dr. Jimmy Moore. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

    Mr. Rhodes was born March 7, 1935 in Windsor, NC, the son of the late Gilbert and Revah Minton Rhodes. Mr. Rhodes was married to the former Janice Jordan, who survives. Mr. Rhodes went to work at an early age helping to bottle and deliver milk, delivering news papers and later working at Rhodes Brother's Saw Mill and Farm. He was a registered Lab and X-Ray technician before graduating from East Carolina College with a BA in Business Administration. Mr. Rhodes was a hospital and nursing home administrator for thirty two years and served at Pungo District Hospital, Belhaven, NC, Lower Florence County Hospital, Lake City, SC, Washington County Hospital, Plymouth, NC and Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter, NC.

    Mr. Rhodes was a past member of the Lions Club, the Rotary Club, Eastern AHEC and the NC Hospital Association. He enjoyed golfing, yard work and especially being with family and friends.

    Along with his wife, Mr. Rhodes is survived by two sons, Lowell P. Rhodes and wife, Lea, of Highpoint, NC and William Gregory Rhodes of Pittsburg, PA, two stepdaughters, Audree Parker and husband, Alton of Bath, NC, Amy Sasnett and husband, Paul of Washington, NC, one brother, Dr. Donald Gilbert Rhodes and wife, Dianne of Melbourne, FL and a special cousin and friend, George Butler Rhodes of Waynesboro, VA. He was Papa to six grandchildren, Candice, Amanda, Kassie and Reid Sasnett, and Trevor and Ashlyn Rhodes. He was preceded in death by one sister, Susan Rebecca Edwards.
