Obituary: Robert Lee Terry | Eastern NC Now

    Mr. Robert Lee Terry, age 64, a resident of US Hwy 264, Washington, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at his home. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and other times at the home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 9, 2011 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, officiated by Dennis Barber. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers: Jay Gurganus Jr., Jay Gurganus III, Christopher Woolard, Jake Allander, Walter S. Cahoon Jr. and Frank Williams Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be, Bill Shavender and Marlin Waters.. Military honors will be rendered.

    Mr. Terry was born on January 12, 1947 in Martin County, son of the late Thurman David and Elizabeth Meeks Terry. Robert served his country in the United States Army for ten years. After his enlistment, he relocated to Washington and was a self-employed plumber and was the owner of Terry's Plumbing. Mr. Terry was married to the former Liddie Gurganus, who survives. Robert was a member and active supporter of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Graceway Pentecostal Holiness Church.

    Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Wanda Cahoon Everett and Michelle Terry Soper, both of Washington, NC; five grandchildren, Walter S. Cahoon III, Susan Cahoon, Sarah Cahoon, Jason Soper and Terri Soper, all of Washington, NC; brother, David Terry of Robersonville, NC; two sisters, Millie Drake of Greenville, NC and Carolyn-Jeanette Thompson of Seven Springs, NC. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lonnie Terry.
