    Milton Lee Mills, age 82, a resident of Harvey Rd., Washington, NC, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014 at his home.

    Milton was born in Pitt County on August 10, 1932 son of the late Snodie Mills and Minnie Ross Mills. He was married to Marlene Cole Mills who preceded him in death. Milton retired in 1997 as a Ferryman with the NC Department of Transportation. He had previously worked with National Spinning. Milton was a member of Hunter's Bridge Hunting Club, Goose Creek Hunting Club and the Eastern North Carolina Coon Hunter's Association. He was a member of Woodard's Pond Church of Christ but recently had been served by Athen's Chapel Church of Christ.

    Milton is survived by his daughters, Leigh Mills Apple and her husband Michael of Washington and Denise Perry Hudson and her husband Scott of Hillsborough; his step son, David Perry of Hillsborough; his grandson Chad Hudson, his wife Stacy and their son Brandon, as well as his grandsons Clayton and Curtis Hudson of Hillsborough; his sister-in-law, Melinda Mills of Washington; his sister, Margie Trogden of Asheboro; his nephews, Jim Jefferson (Becky), William Earl Mills, Jr. (Carla) and Tony Mills (Jennifer) all of Washington and Wayne Mills (Kim) of Greenville; his nieces, Kitty Hedgepeth (Eddie), Tammy Cutler (Kevin), Ann Phelps and Becky Melberger; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends he loved dearly.

    In addition to his parents and wife Marlene, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Earl Mills and his sister, Dorothy Jefferson.

    A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am, Monday, December 15, 2014 at the Auction House of Washington officiated by Minister Chris Hux. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Binnie Hodges, Ben Wilkinson, Alyce Toler, Steve Williams, Roger Forest and Randy Moore will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 pm Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC.
