Torture ~~~ What Is Your Response? | Eastern North Carolina Now

Abu Ghraib is a gross sounding name. It is a prison that Sadam Hussein used to torture his people into submission. We, in all our righteous indignation, declared him a despot / hunted him down and saw to his execution along with his sons. The sons are known to ride around their kingdom with F-250 trucks and chippers behind them. To show people they were in charge, they would pull up and have someone picked up and thrown in.

I use such a Vermeer BC-1000 chipper in my business. It is powered by a 4-cylinder Cummins Diesel engine. It is designed to take up to a 10" piece of wood through it. That log is inserted through the intake chute. A big roller with serious teeth across it forces that wood to the cutter head. It is a heavy steel drum with 2 knives bolted to it. They are called knives because they will cut paper when freshly honed to their knife edge. I must be most careful after grinding them to their fresh edge. The sound of them against the wood sounds like a sharp knife cutting a watermelon with a sharp crack that irritates your ears.

You must wear ear protection if you stand beside the intake area. The machine's cutter turns so fast it takes 2.5 minutes for it to wind down when power is instantly removed. My men are forbidden to feed it unless 2 are present. The instructions are clear that you NEVER stand directly behind it if you want to live. There is a bar across the intake that lets you stop and reverse the intake roller. Should your clothes get caught in the wood (and that has happened to me) the proper position is beside the intake area. Those high sides prevent the machine from chipping you. If you can't rip away from your caught clothes the stop bar is your only salvation. This serious machine costs about $25,000 today. It cost me $21,000 some 10 years ago. It is all made of thick steel and parts designed for only one purpose ---- total destruction.

I read in my professional magazine about a crazy man who walked beside one in operation and who tried to jump in. He was obviously crazy and the men stopped him physically. Another story from the NC Mountains is of such a machine being operated by a lone worker. They had removed the stop bar since a limb sometimes hits it and stops the intake when you are busy feeding it. The rest of the crew was standing at a distance looking the other way. They heard a change in noise and when they looked, he was not there. There was a pile of bloody mush flung out the exhaust chute. It can hurl large wood chunks some 60'. Body mush does not go that far, except for the bone fragments. Most of it just flows down in a bloody mass from 10' back to the edge of the rotating chute. I hope I never witness the sight! Sadam Hussein's' sons smiled as they made their point with innocent people of their country. Hence, they were executed.

Here are the pictures of what went on at the Torture site. Dare to look at all 14 minutes:

We don't know that a chipper was used. We know, FOR CERTAIN, that Americans soldiers administered this torture with smile on face. The Hussein sons were hanged along with their father for such awful torture and death. We KNOW several of the prisoners at Abu Ghraib were killed in the process. They were court marshaled and tried for crimes of war. What happened to their superiors?

To date, they were never arrested and tried!

What happened to our political leaders of the George W. Bush Administration? In particular I am speaking of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld who were directly involved in forming the Executive Order to torture. The military chain of command carries out whatever the Commander-In-Chief signs. Soldiers take an oath to follow the commands of their superiors and they execute such even if their consciences are troubled. Much of the PTSD suffered by soldiers is a direct result of following orders. We have more than we know who come back afflicted.

I have a good friend from Vietnam War days. Just a few months ago he shared his story of suffering from PTSD. He said he would be talking with someone and something in the background would catch his eye. His mind immediately began to replay the awful memories of death and destruction of innocent people in Vietnam. Our soldiers had to adopt a policy of NEVER letting any person in pajamas or other clothing get within 10' of them for fear they hid a grenade or had explosives strapped to their body. They turned people into bloody mush with automatic weapons. Once they examined the remains of the bodies, the majority were women and children who did not understand the 10' rule.

My friend did not disclose his issues when I knew him in the early 70's. He said he raged and screamed through each night and his wife endured it without reporting it back to him. He sought treatment some 10 years ago after 40+ years of angst. He is getting better, but the awful scenes remain---just under some control more of the time than less. He is taking medicine to calm his brain. That brain will never be completely healed. As a US soldier he was following orders which started with the desk of Lyndon B. Johnson who assumed office as a result of President John Kennedy's assassination. Kennedy was going to order a withdrawal of troops from Vietnam. His death insured the war grew and ultimately engulfed the US in protest and angst.

Johnson left office and never was prosecuted for war crimes. Nixon was forced out of office over Watergate and a few years of prosecution and investigation. He ordered a secret bombing of Cambodia despite our surface promise to stick to Vietnam. Innocent people were massacred at the hands of B-52 bombers under the command of Curtis LeMay. He was honored upon his retirement.

We seem to be most selective in our justice over war and terror we inflict to other people of the world. When the Germans and Japanese lost WWII we tried and convicted their leaders. We were most focused on the on-site commanders. The Japanese Emperor was left alone because we had laid the Atom bomb on 2 major cities there. We had exacted "justice" with that bomb.

Here are the major questions for 2014 as we now have a clear presentation that does not allow us to deny how WE TORTURED PRISONERS OF WAR:

    · Us taxpayers paid for this war and have about wrecked our national debt with spending-just what is our complicity in paying for the weapons of mass destruction we have?

    · George Bush and his Advisors signed the orders for Torture --- do we try them as we have our enemies we conquered in the past?

    · If we fail to take responsibility for Torture, how does the world look on us?

    •  Is it wise to have tunnel vision and selective memory until we stand before God and His Judgment Seat?

    •  How do our minds excuse such Torture and activities?

    •  Are we really as honorable as we think ourselves to be as Americans?

It is your turn now to come up with some thoughtful answers . . .

From the Middle: "T'was the day before Christmas and all through the house, wise people knew: "Be quiet as a mouse." Old Santa is tired of the bitching and bit. His word to all smart folks is QUIT . . ."

I get it by now.

While a Democrat is the Commander-in-Chief, the policy for Liberals is "Blame America First".

Bearing that in mind: How are the foreign policies in Ukraine, Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, along the Mexican border, and even Israel working for you?

If you don't know, I'll tell you: Lost one war, losing another, have two terrorist states with nuclear capabilities and developing the means to deliver, a demoralized border patrol is overwhelmed and losing daily, after 2 1/2 years Benghazi forgotten, Putin is on the march, and Israel feels abandoned.

But there is one thing you Liberals are good at: "Blaming America First!"
