    Mr. Alpha "Al" Dixon Edwards, Jr., age 60, a resident of Market Street Ext., Washington, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

    Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 3, 2015, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, conducted by Pastor Doug Batchelor. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Joshua Edwards, Michael Sheppard, Steven Sheppard, Jeremy Wallace, John Riffert, Crystal Watts and Jasmine McHargue.

    Mr. Edwards was born in Beaufort County on February 2, 1954. He was the son of Peachy Wells Edwards and the late Alpha Dixon Edwards, Sr. Mr. Edwards was a 1972 graduate of Washington High School. He worked in the Shipping and Receiving Department at Lowe's. As an animal lover, Mr. Edwards enjoyed feeding the turtles when he walked along the Washington waterfront. He was a member of Love Missionary Baptist Church.

    Mr. Edwards is survived by his mother, Peachy Edwards of Washington; a brother Tommy Edwards of Greenville; a sister, Nellie Walkingshaw of Nova Scotia and now Washington; fiancé', Ann Sheppard of Washington; and a close family friend, Renee Moore of Greenville.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 2, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of his sister, Nellie Walkingshaw, 125 McNair Street, Washington.
