Mrs. Mary "Jean" Hancock Walker | Eastern NC Now

Born: October 1, 1932 - January 9, 2015

    Mrs. Mary "Jean" Hancock Walker, age 82, a resident of Forecastle Ct., Pamlico Plantation Community, Washington, NC, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015.

    Jean was born in Durham, NC on October 1, 1932 daughter of the late Sollie and Myrtle Holmes Hancock. She was married to Clarence Aubrey Walker who preceded her in death on August 16, 2008. Jean was a line supervisor for Polaroid, retiring in 1988. She and her husband moved from Massachusetts in 1989.

    Jean is survived by her children, Jeff Walker and wife Jamie of Farmville, NC and Donna W. Riendeau and husband Paul of Massachusetts; her brothers, Sollie Hancock, Jr. of TN, Donnie Hancock of NC and Jerry Hancock of GA; her grandchildren, Landon Walker and wife Kayla, Roger Walker and wife Soni, Paige Stalcup, Amy Baker and husband Trent, and Beth Jones and husband Mark; and her great grandchildren, Reese Walker, Cara Walker, Maicy Jones, Carys Jones, and soon-to-be great granddaughter, Aubrey Jo Walker.

    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Hancock.

    A celebration of her life will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, Monday, January 12, 2015 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC.

    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made in memory of Jean to Marion L. Shepard Foundation, 1209 Brown St. Washington, NC 27889 or National Kidney Foundation, Inc., 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.

    The family would like to thank all her friends at Pamlico Plantation for their love and support, especially over the past six to seven years.
