    Miss Carolyn Cherry Waters, age 76, formerly of Washington, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015.

    The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Saturday, January 9, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington.

    Private services will be held later.

    Miss Waters was born in Beaufort County on February 17, 1938. She was the daughter of the late James Luther (J. L.) Waters, Sr. and Lillian Cherry Waters. Miss Waters graduated from Washington High School with honors, including the Business, Spanish and English Awards as well as serving as a Marshall. Miss Waters graduated from East Carolina College (now East Carolina University) with a B.S. Degree and a double major in English and Spanish. She was an educator who taught Spanish in Arizona and English in North Carolina as long as her health permitted. Miss Waters was an avid reader and loved helping people.

    Miss Waters is survived by two sisters, Barbara Snow and husband, Eddie of Washington, Sandra W. Wynne of Washington; a brother, James L. Waters, Jr. of San Diego, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents, Miss Waters was preceded in death by a brother, Justin Waters; a sister, Joyce Whitehead; sister in law, Jean Waters; brother in law, Durwood Kirby Wynne, Sr.; and nephew, Jim Waters.
