    Raleigh, N.C. — The Office of Governor Pat McCrory announced the following appointments:

North Carolina Plant Conservation Board

  • Dr. Peter White (Orange County) — White is a faculty member with the UNC-Chapel Hill Biology Department.

    The board adds and subtracts species from the list of endangered or threatened native plants. Members also adopt and enforce regulations to protect rare native plants in the state. The term length is four years.

Governor's Advisory Council on Aging

  • Pamela Palmer (Wake County) — Palmer is an accountant who also has served on the Wake County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee.
  • Mary Troidl (Wake County) — Troidl is the founder of The Friends of Hospice and the Friends of Child Advocacy.
  • Reverend Phillip Brown (Alamance County) — Brown is the pastor at Bethel United Methodist Church. This is a reappointment.
  • Herman Joubert (Caswell County) — Joubert is a substitute teacher and bus driver in the Caswell County Schools.
  • Lynn Glenewinkel (Durham County) — Glenewinkel is a licensed dietitian and the owner/operator of Lynn's Catering and Cleaning Service.
  • William Griffin (Mecklenburg County) — Griffin is the owner of Griffin Home Health Care, Inc. He has been appointed chairman.

    The council studies ways and means of promoting public understanding of the problems of the aging, considers the need for new state programs in the field of aging, and makes recommendations to the governor and secretary of Health and Human Services. The term length is four years.

North Carolina Child Fatality Task Force

  • Dr. Sarah Verbiest (Orange County) — Verbiest is the director and co-founder of the Every Woman Southeast Coalition. This is a reappointment.
  • Michelle Hughes (Durham County) — Hughes is the executive director of NC Child.
  • Buck Wilson (Cumberland County) — Wilson is the health director of the Department of Public Health. This is a reappointment.

    The task force conducts a statistical study of the incidences and causes of child deaths in the state and establishes a profile of child deaths; develops a system for multidisciplinary review of child deaths; and studies the operation of existing local teams. It also examines laws, rules and policies relating to confidentiality of and access to information that affects agencies with responsibilities for children, including state and local health, mental health, social services, education and law enforcement agencies, to determine if those regulations inappropriately impede the exchange of information necessary to protect children from preventable deaths. The term length is two years.

Underground Damage Prevention Review Board

  • Christopher Russ (New Hanover County) — Russ is the Wilmington Regional manager with the United States Infrastructure Corporation (USIC).
  • David West (Wake County) — West is the state encroachment agent at the N.C. Department of Transportation.
  • Louis Panzer (Guilford County) — Panzer is the executive director at NC811.
  • W. Dean Yancey (Iredell County) — Yancey is the project manager of contract locating at Duke Energy.
  • Richard Gould (Guilford County) — Gould is the operations manager at Century Link for Eastern Georgia and the Carolinas.
  • James Nelson (Mecklenburg County) — Nelson is the compliance program manager at Piedmont Natural Gas.
  • William Thomas West (Guilford County) — West is the right of way manager at Colonial Pipeline Company.
  • Christopher McGee (Johnston County) — McGee is the transportation field services manager for the city of Raleigh.
  • John Stike (Wake County) — Stike is the vice president of Sanford Contractors, Inc.
  • Kenneth Malonson (Wake County) — Malonson is the vice president of Park Construction of NC, Inc.
  • R. Joel Johnson (Jackson County) — Johnson is the owner of Joel Johnson Land Surveying, Inc.
  • Danny Sloan (Iredell County) — Sloan is the assistant manager at Iredell Water Corporation (IWC).
  • Danny Lassiter (Carteret County) — Lassiter is the regional manager for Utilities, Inc.
  • W. Gregory Puckett (Surry County) — Puckett is the executive vice president and general manager of Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation.
  • Nestor Martin (Mecklenburg County) — Martin is senior director of engineering operations, field network engineering operations (FNEO) at Time Warner Cable.

    The Notification Center shall transmit all reports of alleged violations of this Article to the Board, including any information received by the Notification Center regarding the report. The Board shall meet at least quarterly to review all reports filed pursuant to G.S. 87-120(e). The Board shall act as an arbitrator between the parties to the report. If, after reviewing the report and any accompanying information, the Board determines that a violation of this Article has occurred, the Board shall notify the violating party in writing of its determination and the recommended penalty. The violating party may request a hearing before the Board, after which the Board may reverse or uphold its original finding. If the Board recommends a penalty, the Board shall notify the Utilities Commission of the recommended penalty, and the Utilities Commission shall issue an order imposing the penalty. The term length ends with the expiration date to be determined by the review board.
