John “Jack” Arrington Philips | Eastern NC Now

    John ("Jack") Arrington Philips, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. He was born in Rocky Mount, NC on June 22, 1935.

    He was the son of the late John Arrington Philips, Sr. and Winifred Phoebe Green. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Adkins Philips.

    Jack graduated from Rocky Mount High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He owned and operated Rocky Mount Welding Supply in Rocky Mount, NC from the early 1960s until 2005 when he retired. He spent his weekends and retirement years at Kilby Island on the Pamlico River near Bayview, NC enjoying boating, fishing, and being outdoors on the water.

    He is survived by his son, John Arrington Philips, III and his wife, Melanie Raper Philips of Wilmington, NC and his daughter, Stephanie Ann Philips of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lane Goodwin Philips of Wilmington, NC and Jordan Anne Philips of Raleigh, NC.

    A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at Pineview Cemetery with Rev. Nathan Tuttle officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
