    Mrs. Myrtle Paul Carowan, age 88, a resident of 325 Elm Street, Pantego, NC died Saturday April 25, 2015 at Ridgewood manor Nursing Center of Washington.

    A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 28, 2015 at Oakdale Cemetery of Washington officiated by Rev. Jim Bussell.

    The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday April 27, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of Mrs. Carowan's son, Benny, located at 121 Beech Ridge Road, Pantego, NC.

    Mrs. Carowan was born in Beaufort County on February 20, 1927 daughter of the late Daniel Ruben Paul, Sr. and the late Aelene Silverthorne Paul. She was a graduate of Pantego High School and married Benjamin Grant Carowan, Sr. who preceded her in death on June 21, 1981. Mrs. Carowan was a graduate of East Carolina University with a BS degree in education. She started her teaching career in Aurora High School before returning to her school of graduation where she taught until her retirement. Following her teaching career she became the owner/operator of Carowan Hog Farm until her second retirement. She was a member of Pantego Christian Church, a member of the NC Pork Producers and was a proud member of the Beaufort County Community College Board of Directors.

    Mrs. Carowan is survived by a daughter: Kayron Claudia Carowan of Marshall, NC; a son: Benjamin "Benny" Carowan, Jr. and his wife Jenell of Pantego and a grandson: Benjamin "Grant" Carowan III. She was predeceased by a brother: Daniel D. Paul.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly request for memorial contributions to be made to the Beaufort County Community College Foundation, 5337 US Hwy. 264 East, Washington, NC 27889.
