BCCC Medical Laboratory Technology Graduates Receive Pins | Eastern North Carolina Now

Nine graduates of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program at Beaufort County Community College received their pins in a ceremony held Friday, May 15, in the Multi-Purpose Room of Building 10 on the BCCC campus.

    Nine graduates of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program at Beaufort County Community College received their pins in a ceremony held Friday, May 15, in the Multi-Purpose Room of Building 10 on the BCCC campus.

    Those graduates receiving pins are Martha Richardson of Grimesland: Juanita White of New Bern; Krystal Cherry, Kaley Jones and Sylvia Smith of Pinetown; Heather Birdo of Plymouth, and Alexis Fraley and Donna Jackson of Washington.

    MLT Director Erica Schatz welcomed those attending the ceremony; MLT Graduate Kirsite Williams gave the invocation and the benediction. A student message was given by Sylvia Smith.

    Special awards were given to the graduates as follows: Highest Grade Point Average, Martha Richardson; Clinical Performance Award, Syliva Smith and Art Keenhle Outstanding Student Award, Heather Birdo.

    The Medical Laboratory Technology curriculum prepares individuals to perform clinical laboratory procedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology and immunohematology.

    Graduates may be eligible to take exams given by the Board of Registry of Medical Technologists of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or the Certifying Agency. Employment opportunities include laboratories in hospitals, medical offices, industries and research facilities.
