Piedmont-Triad Municipalities Champion Governor McCrory’s Connect NC Bond Proposal | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Raleigh, N.C.     Municipalities in the Piedmont-Triad region have overwhelmingly added their support for Governor Pat McCrory's Connect NC bond proposal. Stokes County, Lexington and the towns of Pilot Mountain and Jamestown are the latest municipalities in the Triad to officially approve resolutions in support of the bond package.

    "Leaders in the Triad realize that educational institutions and a high quality of life are significant factors in attracting new employers to the area," Governor McCrory said. "I commend local leaders for their call to allow the voters to decide on these important investments in our state's future growth and prosperity."

    The Jamestown resolution states, "New school facilities and superior roads and bridges are long-term investments in the state's future that will support our growth and make North Carolina more attractive to businesses and residents."

    The Stokes County resolution clearly explains, "We recognize the value to the Stokes County Community that these bond referendums would provide."

    Several projects in the bond package will directly benefit the Triad. Connect NC will invest $99 million for a new College of Engineering facility at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and $53 million for a new sciences building at Winston-Salem State University to prepare students for high demand careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Connect NC investments in the North Carolina Zoo and several state parks in the region will further improve the quality of life in the Triad.

    The endorsements of Stokes County, Lexington, Pilot Mountain and Jamestown come on the heels of resolutions of support by Alamance and Davie Counties, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Kernersville, Lewisville, Rural Hall and Walkertown.

    The Winston-Salem and Asheboro-Randolph Chambers of Commerce have also officially endorsed the bond proposal.

    Connect NC is targeted investments in North Carolina's roads, education, public health, parks and military. From small farming towns to large cities, Connect NC projects will benefit every community across the state while creating thousands of jobs along the way.

    Because of the state's fiscal strength and strong balance sheet, no tax increase is needed to fund the bonds and the state's AAA bond rating would be preserved.
