Dueling Hits - Roy Orbison - 1960 | Eastern NC Now

Jet black hair, just like Elvis and big old black rimmed glasses prove that looks were not all that was needed. A great voice was a must for Roy Orbison.

Publisher's note: I have initiated this new segment on BCN, where I determine the Best Music Ever ... and, 'with a little help from my friends'. I do this from my opinion, for what that is worth, where I will measure the best music that I am familiar with.

I do this for two reasons: 1) I want to expose the best music that I know to the rest of us. 2) Popular Music today may be the very worst it has ever been, and that is saying much, since I lived through Disco.

For a list of all of the contributions to this series, please click here.

As previously mentioned, there will be others who share their favorites with our BCN readers, in particular here, Bobby Tony.

Roy would later be a member of The Traveling Wilburys and his voice was still distinct in their hit Handle with Care. I can't say the same for the rest of the group.

My aspersion was more toward their voice quality and not the talent. Both Bob and Tom could convey the message but Roy had the angelic sound in his voice. George and Jeff weren't shabby either.

Direct from Dr. Strangelove, Feed me you said. I have to pick up the pace you are catching up to my pending queue.

Bobby Tony, I publish here, and my reply is "Feed me!"

However, I disagree with your faint aspersion on the other members of the Traveling Wilburys. These other musicians: Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynn are a pretty strong group.

Actually Bob Dylan, George Harrison (Beatles) and Jeff Lynne (The Move / Electric Light Orchestra) were some of favorites through High School.

Is anyone else getting tired of Bobby Tony's regurgitation of old music?
