Dueling Hits - Country | Eastern NC Now

The distinctions between Country and pop have been blended over the years and sometimes it is difficult to draw a fine line.

Publisher's note: I have initiated this new segment on BCN, where I determine the Best Music Ever ... and, 'with a little help from my friends'. I do this from my opinion, for what that is worth, where I will measure the best music that I am familiar with.

I do this for two reasons: 1) I want to expose the best music that I know to the rest of us. 2) Popular Music today may be the very worst it has ever been, and that is saying much, since I lived through Disco.

For a list of all of the contributions to this series, please click here.

As previously mentioned, there will be others who share their favorites with our BCN readers, in particular here, Bobby Tony.

The distinctions between Country and pop have been blended over the years and sometimes it is difficult to draw a fine line.

There are many who will say Country Music was never the same after Hank Williams Sr. died. That may be true, but country music is about life, both good and bad, drunk or sober, rich or poor and finally broken hearted or head over heals in love.

One of the favorite contemporary Country Singers / Songwriters is Toby Keith. He has had many hits but here are two. First from Toby is his tribute to that one girl who turned out to be a heartless B#$ch. Who me bitter?,

I wish I didn't know Now

Next up is the 1950's theme song for all us aging cowboys who should have been a cowboy.

I should have been a Cowboy
