Dueling Hits - Kris Kristofferson Then and beyond | Eastern North Carolina Now

He is a mediocre actor, a terrible singer, a real left winger, and an Oxford Scholar, but he is a patriot regardless of your thoughts on his politics. He served in the Army as a helicopter pilot and attained the rank of Captain. He also completed Ranger school which makes him a patriot in my book

Publisher's note: I have initiated this new segment on BCN, where I determine the Best Music Ever ... and, 'with a little help from my friends'. I do this from my opinion, for what that is worth, where I will measure the best music that I am familiar with.

I do this for two reasons: 1) I want to expose the best music that I know to the rest of us. 2) Popular Music today may be the very worst it has ever been, and that is saying much, since I lived through Disco.

For a list of all of the contributions to this series, please click here.

As previously mentioned, there will be others who share their favorites with our BCN readers, in particular here, Bobby Tony.

Kris wrote some of the most heartfelt songs I think I have ever heard. I present two here in his own voice though others have done a much better job covering his songs.

First is a story that a few of us may have lived but were unable to put down in words. This was at the tribute to Johnny Cash, a man that Kris adored as did I.

Maybe you have spent a couple of Sunday Mornings Coming Down like this.

On the opposite side of the spectrum is the man who fought demons and may still be fighting them, but came as close to seeing the light as any of us. This is the story of how he came to write the song as well as his singing it. Bear with it for the entire six minutes.

It kind of reminds me of the old saying "You are either a blessing or a lesson to me". God does his work in mysterious ways.

    Why me Lord?
