    Mildred L. Burrus, age 57, a resident of Pungo Village, Belhaven, NC passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016 surrounded by her family.

    Ms. Burrus previously lived in Pasadena, California and Brooklyn, New York. Ms. Burrus was born in Belhaven, NC on June 1, 1958 to the late Edward Jefferson Burrus and Mildred Barnhill Burrus. She was a homemaker.

    She is survived by her step- mother Helen Burrus of Durham, NC, her son Michael Porter Burrus of Papillion, NE, sisters, Edvita B. Moore and husband Kenneth of Jamesville, NC, Cheryl Burrus of San Antonio, TX, Phyllis Gordon and husband Howard of Middletown, NY, adopted sister Rydia Spencer and husband Willie of Belhaven, NC, Celestine Simpson and husband Leroy of Zebulon, NC, Janet Palmer and husband Greg of Baltimore, MD, Denise Dudley of Durham, NC, brothers George Burrus and wife Dianna of Belhaven, NC Jerry Burrus and wife Sarah of Papillion, NE, Terry Burrus of Louisville, KY, Gruver Burrus and wife Glenda of Plymouth, NC, Samuel Dudley and wife Sandra of South Carolina, James Earl Wilder of Washington D.C., Larry Dudley of Charlotte, NC, two grandsons Tyree Sutton of Greensboro, NC, Rylan Maeschen of Papillion, NE, a special friend Jessie Selby of Belhaven, NC. Many cousins, nieces nephews and friends to cherish her memories. In addition to her parents Ms. Burrus was also predeceased by one son, Derrick Burrus and one sister in law, Carolyn Burrus. Ms. Burrus was a member of St. Reddick Missionary Baptist Church in Belhaven, NC.

    A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday January 9, 2016 at Saint Reddick Missionary Baptist Church in Belhaven, NC with Reverend James Harris officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of her brother George Burrus, 290 George Street, Belhaven, NC.
