Uptown Greenville 2016 State of the District: Date and Keynote Speaker Announced | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

GREENVILLE, NC     Uptown Greenville will host the annual State of the District event on Tuesday, February 9, from 5:30-7:30pm at the Martinsborough. The event will be a time to celebrate the growth and transformation occurring in the Uptown district and to ignite passion and excitement for what is to come.

The evening will feature updates on major district initiatives, Uptown Greenville Award Presentations and keynote speaker, Peter Kageyama, urban activist and author of For the Love of Cities and Love Where You Live.

Kageyama is an internationally sought-after community development consultant and grassroots engagement strategist who speaks all over the world about bottom-up community development. Planetizen recognized For the Love of Cities as a Top 10 Book in 2012 in urban planning, design and development.

Kageyama will speak to attendees about the economic benefits of emotional engagement and what makes cities lovable. He will speak on how community members can be co-creators of innovation and growth in the city in which they live.

"If cities begin thinking of themselves as engaged in a relationship with their citizens, and if we as citizens begin to consider our emotional connections with our places, we open up new possibilities in community, social and economic development by including the most powerful of motivators-the human heart-in our toolkit of city-making," says Kageyama expanding on For the Love of Cities.

Though seating will be limited, all are invited, and Uptown Greenville invites all members of the community to vote on this year's Uptown Greenville Small Business Award. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for the State of the District event. Purchase tickets, vote online and find information on sponsorship at www.uptowngreenville.com.

Plan to join the region's most influential business, government and community leaders to celebrate Greenville's center city.
