By now, many people have heard that Meadowlark passed away at 83 year old. Many may not know who he was and why he was so important. You can find the details in numerous places on the web. He was a Wilmington, NC boy who made a great impact on basketball and entertainment.

Back in the days of southern segregation in the south, the Harlem Globetrotters transcended the race barrier for just a few hours when they toured the country with a combination comedy and exhibition routine on the basketball court.

When basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain was asked his opinion on the best player of all time, he responded, "For me it would be Meadowlark Lemon." That is saying quite a bit about talent.

I saw them as a kid in Atlanta and was always amazed at the trick shots. The trademark hook shot was always a crowd favorite. I practiced it repeatedly but never was able to get the hang of the shot. I was just barely over 5' 9" tall for most of my high school life and there was never a doubt that I would not be a basketball player, but a kid can dream.

Update on the Harlem Globe trotters March 13, 2016

Some things must be destined to keep going long after our childhood memories of them become dim. I think the Harlem Globe Trotters may be one of those.

Here are couple of video clips of one of the newest members doing a trick shots. One from the Skylift at Stone Mountain, Ga and the other at the beach. The sound quality of the beach shot is poor due to the wind, you may want to turn down the volume.
