Rae Weems | Eastern NC Now

    Rae Louise Weems (Sawdy-Highhouse), 75, of Belhaven, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at 10:30 p.m. in the Pallative Care Unit of Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC, shortly after the recurrence of breast cancer.

    Rae was born on October 2, 1940, in Buffalo, NY, to Adelle and Gilbert Sawdy. She is survived by her husband Earl Weems, and his three children and three grandchildren. Cherished mother of Traci Bassi (David) and Scott Highhouse (Maggie). Beloved grandmother of Dean and Drake Savage, Carmen, Cole, Baye, Owen, and Willow Highhouse. Rae was preceded in death by her parents. She cared deeply for her family, friends, and her beloved dog Pungo and cat, Maggi. Rae was an avid seamstress most of her life, and was a member of the Cat Fanciers Association when she was a cat breeder and cat show enthusiast for many years. She was a member of the Threads of the Pungo quilting club, and the Bethany Methodist Church in Winsteadville, NC, where she was embraced with love and friendship.
