Melvin G. Grant, Sr. | Eastern NC Now

    Mr. Melvin Gene Grant, Sr., age 77, a resident of 1618 Memory Lane, Chocowinity, died Tuesday evening March 22, 2016 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

    A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

    Mr. Grant was born in Lenoir County on November 2, 1938, son of the late Jessie F. Grant and Bonnie White Grant. He was married to the former Genevieve Henderson, who survives. Mr. Grant loved to fish, enjoyed watching western programs on television and was very family oriented. He retired from Sampson Shirt Factory as a supervisor.

    In addition to his wife, Genevieve of the home, he is survived by his son: Melvin Gene Grant, Jr. and wife Rita Sigmon Grant of Washington; his grandsons: Joshua Tull Grant and Geoffrey Gene Grant; step-daughter: Lisa Everett Williams and husband Christopher Shannon Williams; step-son: James Mack Everett, III of Burlington, NC; step-grandchildren: Chase Everett Williams and Peyton Alexis Williams; great grandchildren: Taylor Rain Grant and Jasmine Rose Smith; and his sister: Faye Grant Humphries of Kinston. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Jessie F. Grant, Jr., Vernon Albert Grant and Charlie Grant and his sisters: Irene Murphy Grant and Hazel Grant Miller.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 3219 Landmark Street, Unit 9, Greenville, NC 27834.
