 The Center For American Progress recently released a so-called "study" pegging the economic losses facing North Carolina over its bathroom privacy law at over half a billion dollars.

 This talking point has been regurgitated by Roy Cooper's allies on the left, including the Human Rights Campaign, Equality NC and newly-appointed Democrat State Representative Chris Sgro, and has also reported by many media outlets across the country and around the world as fact.

But it's not true.

 Politifact North Carolina took a deeper look and found these claims to be "false" and "over-exaggerated."

 According to fact-checker Will Doran: "A closer look shows that many of the companies listed in the CAP study haven't actually promised to pull their investments out of North Carolina if HB2 remains state law."

 The group that put out this study, The Center For American Progress, is a leftist organization whose leadership includes President Obama's former chief-of-staff and Hillary Clinton's current campaign chairman John Podesta. Additionally, Roy Cooper's campaign spokesman is a former employee of The Center For American Progress.

 No doubt Roy Cooper and his supporters on the left wish there was more than half a billion in economic damage to North Carolina. Indeed, they have been working hard behind the scenes to get companies to pull out of North Carolina, boycott the state and inflict economic damage on hardworking North Carolinians for their own political purposes. But just wishing and hoping for it doesn't automatically make it true.

 These revelations about false claims by opponents of HB2 should put all reporters, editors and producers on notice.
