    Mr. James "Jimmy" Ray Stokes, age 66, a resident of 1201 Haw Branch Road, Chocowinity, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Vidant Medical Center.

    The family will receive friends at 11am in the church Family Life Center and funeral services will be at 12:00 pm Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Haw Branch Church of Christ. Services will be conducted by Bill Ray Askew and Jason Kirkman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Jeff Brame, Jeff Hardy, Kelvin Harding, Larry Linton, Ashley Woolard and Tab Porter will serve as pallbearers.

    Jimmy was born in Beaufort County on April 18, 1950 to the late Grady Elmer Stokes and Annie Gray Crisp Stokes. He married Scarlet Hill who survives. He received an AAS degree in Industrial Management from Pitt Community College, was employed as a production and maintenance supervisor with DSM Pharmaceuticals for 19 years and was owner/operator of Haw Branch Nursery and Lawn Care for 15 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge # 675 and was a 32 degree Mason. Jimmy was a faithful and dedicated member of Haw Branch Church of Christ, serving as past elder, deacon and teaching Sunday school class. He enjoyed family time and was a loving husband, dad and granddad.

    Survivors include his wife Scarlet H. Stokes of the home, his son, James "Jamie" Ray Stokes, Jr. and wife Dawn of Chocowinity, his daughter, Jody Stokes Harbrige and husband Travis of Chocowinity, four grandchildren, Aaron Matthew Stokes, Jessica Stokes Edwards and husband John, Abby Raelynn Harbrige and Carly Jo Harbrige. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elna Faye Smith.

    Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Haw Branch Church of Christ Building Fund, 1501 Haw Branch Road, Chocowinity, NC 27817 or to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, Patient Assistance Fund, 1209 Brown St., Washington, NC 27889.
