Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory announced that the state has completed the sale of two historic houses in the Blount Street District as part of his Project Phoenix initiative to return underutilized state properties to more productive and efficient use.

"Thanks to our Project Phoenix initiative to ensure state property is put to the highest and best use, these historic homes can now be returned to their original beauty," said Governor McCrory. "This will not only return money to the taxpayers, but will help revitalize the Historic Blount Street District in downtown Raleigh."

This week, the state closed the sales of the Ashley House at 219 East North Street and the Lamar House at 401 North Person Street in downtown Raleigh.

The Heck-Andrews and Cambridge Houses are pending final sale upon the buyer's approval in the coming weeks.

Offers have also been accepted on the Bailey-Tucker House, the Watson House, the Worth House, the Gay House, the Andrews-Duncan House, the Coble-Helms House, the McGee House and the Heartt House. The deeds for these properties are currently awaiting the buyer's approval prior to submission to Governor McCrory for his signature.

The sale of these homes is estimated to return $7 million to the state.

Under Governor McCrory's leadership, North Carolina has reformed how state government occupies space for greater efficiency, productivity and cost control, not to mention the importance of state-owned assets to their surrounding areas. Project Phoenix is Governor McCrory's initiative to improve the state's occupancy of real estate across North Carolina. This initiative will take advantage of today's low interest rates and North Carolina's innovative private sector in pioneering public-private partnerships to transform government spaces across the state.

As part of the governor's initiative, the state has listed a property on W. Peace Street in Raleigh for a long term lease agreement. Additionally, properties on Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh and the former site of the Charlotte Correctional Facility have been listed for sale.
