Born: July 27, 1928, Died: September 8, 2016

    Mr. Alton Gray Lancaster, Sr., age 88, a resident of 1802 John Small Avenue, Washington, NC died Thursday afternoon September 8, 2016 at River Trace surrounded by his family.

    A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington officiated by Pastor Jack Holloman and Rev. Jerry Barbee. Jackson Lancaster, Hunter Lancaster, Chris Leggett, Ted Asby, Jason Rhem, Kevin Rhem and Greg Clark will serve as pallbearers. Benny Ambrose will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

    Mr. Lancaster was born in Craven County on July 27, 1928, son of the late Jacob Lancaster and Orpha Lewis Lancaster. On October 13, 1945, he married the former Edna Barker who preceded him in death on July 25, 2013. Mr. Lancaster was a truck driver and enjoyed telling stories of his experiences while on the road. He enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the traffic pass by. He attended Snowd Branch Church of God.

    Mr. Lancaster is survived by his children: Alton G. Lancaster, Jr. and wife Frances of Huntersville, NC, Kathy Rhem and husband Frank of Washington, Diane Leggett and husband Johnny of Washington and Terry Lancaster and wife Louann of Chocowinity; his grandchildren: Renee, Chris, Jason, Angie, Kevin, Jackson and Hunter; and his great grandchildren: Makenzie, Kaitlin, Clayton, Kyle, Mason, Parker, Cierra, Grace, Michael, Reagan and Drake. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Jacob Cleveland Lancaster, Jr. and William B. Lancaster and his sisters: Lou Creasman, Stella Haddock and Ethel Campbell.

    The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service on Saturday beginning at 10:00 until the funeral hour at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
