Press Release:

The following classes are available through the Continuing Education Department at BCCC. To register, call 252-940-6375 or email continuingeducation@beaufortccc.edu.

Administrative Office Assistant

This course will teach students the basics of working in an administrative office. Students will learn proper attire and presentation, business English, document preparation and organization, professional communication, as well as Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Instructor Linda Howard will help students learn how to apply these skills to a professional job and apply them to a professional resume. Students will receive a certificate upon successful completion. This class will run on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:00-9:00 p.m. from January 23 through May 15 and costs $185.

CDL Truck Driving

The Truck Driver Training program at BCCC will train students to drive a Class-A combination vehicle and prepare students for their pre-trip inspection, off road skills test and the driving test which are all components of the NCDMV commercial driver's license (CDL) exam.

This program is an online hybrid program which means that there will be online assignments apart from on-campus driving on the weekends. It will include an emphasis on log truck driving with the opportunity to pursue a post-course internship with a local logging company. This program is made possible through partnerships with Golden Leaf Foundation, NCDOT, Weyerhaeuser and locally-owned insurance groups.

Funding assistance may be available through NCWORKS. There are also scholarships available through State Employees Credit Union and Golden Leaf. It will begin on January 23 and costs $226.25 and requires a textbook. Weekend training will take place on both Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on BCCC's main campus.

Substance Abuse Counselor

Students can get certified to be a substance abuse counselor online. This certification can be a great step for people looking to enter the counseling field or to advance in their current position as nurses, mental health counselors and family service providers. A certified substance abuse counselor performs twelve core functions, including screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, report and record keeping, consultation with other professionals in regard to client treatment and services, and referral to treat addictive disorder or disease and help prevent relapse. Beverly Cates and Loretta Ebison will lead this online program. This course satisfies credits for education and ethics toward NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board. An additional practicum will still be required of students to achieve state certification. The program runs from January 23 through May 14 and costs $185.
