Beaufort County Sheriff's Department makes Drug Bust in Washington, NC | Eastern North Carolina Now

Investigators with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office Drug Unit and Agents with Alcohol Law Enforcement executed a Search Warrant at John Dewan Smallwood's residence located at 607 W. 13th Street in Washington.

Sheriff's Office Drug Unit, Investigators with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office Drug Unit and Agents with Alcohol Law Enforcement executed a Search Warrant at John Dewan Smallwood's residence located at 607 W. 13th Street in Washington.

    Investigators and K-9 Elza conducted a search and found approximately 1,073 grams of cocaine, two dosage units of Ecstasy, $23,000 in US currency, digital scales, plastic baggies, a double barrel sawed off shotgun and a 25 caliber pistol.

    Smallwood was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine, Maintaining a Dwelling to Keep a Controlled Sub-stance, Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance (Ecstasy), Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

    Smallwood was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $1,000,000.00 secured bond.

One must admit that this distribution arrangement is far removed from the days, when the mantra, "pot is groovy ... man" was espoused from the lips of every self-indulgent hippie from the sixties, and early seventies.

I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time. At least the music was pretty cool. Guns, and big money is not cool.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a runaway juvenile and her 15 month old son. 17-year-old Nevaeh Nicole Tanjaya Harvey was last seen on 08/08/2025 around 2:00 PM, leaving her residence on South White Post Rd. in Pinetown NC with her 15 month old son.
On Thursday, August 7, 2025, at approximately 2:45 AM, Jamyah Hale was located at a residence in the Washington city limits by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and the Washington Police Department.
