New President Announced at BCCC | Eastern NC Now

    WASHINGTON, NC     The BCCC Board of Trustees has selected Dr. David Loope as the next President of Beaufort County Community College. On June 1, pending approval from the NC Board of Community Colleges, he will become the sixth president of BCCC. The decision to hire Loope was a unanimous decision of the Board.

    Loope currently serves as Vice President of Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer and Professor at Reynolds Community College in Richmond, Virginia. During his seven years at Reynolds CC, Loope oversaw all academic programs across four schools and three campuses. He developed the college's first Center for Faculty Engagement and restructured the Center for Distance Learning. He has experience with dual enrollment initiates with public schools and established Reynold's first Developmental Education Advisory Committee.

    His experience is not limited to the curriculum side. He was recently named Interim Vice President of the Community College Workforce Alliance, where he approved contracts to provide local business and industry partners with non-credit and credit workforce training.

    During his 26 years in education, has also worked with Tidewater Community College in Norfolk, VA and Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. Loope holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education from The College of William and Mary, a Master of Arts in English from Wake Forest University and a Bachelors of Arts in English from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

    "In my opinion, he is exactly what this college needs. He is a quiet leader. He pays attention and listens because his mode of operation is to build consensus," said Dr. Laura Staton, chair of the BCCC Board of Trustees. "When he speaks, he speaks from instinct, from the knowledge he has accumulated by listening to the advice of the faculty, program directors and staff who work day to day in their respective departments."

    An avid reader and history enthusiast, Loope is also a longtime tennis player. His wife Charlene is a native of Camden County. His son Alex graduates from high school this spring and will attend Davidson College.

    "As we say goodbye to Dr. Tansey, we do so knowing that the BCCC will be in good hands with Dr. Loope," said Staton. Outgoing president Dr. Barbara Tansey announced her retirement in August 2016. Her last day as president of the college will be May 31.

    Beaufort County Community College provides accessible and affordable quality education, effective teaching, relevant training and lifelong learning opportunities to the people of Beaufort, Hyde, Tyrrell and Washington Counties. With more than 400 employees, 2,100 students enrolled in its curriculum programs, and 4,400 in continuing education, BCCC is a driving force in the economic development of the region.
