    Mrs. Ione Toler Whitford, age 93, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Thursday morning June 1, 2017 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington.

    A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM on Sunday June 4, 2017 at Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church located at 154 Flat Swamp Road, Blounts Creek and will be officiated by Rev. Joel Cannon. Brian Silva, Preston Norman, Albert Toler, Laverne Toler, Mike Jones and Danny Cox will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    Mrs. Whitford was born in Beaufort County on October 2, 1923, daughter of the late Joshua Louis Toler and Eva Bell Toler. She was a graduate of Aurora High School and was married to Murray Whitford, who preceded her in death in 1996. Mrs. Whitford was employed as a seamstress with Samson's Shirt Factory. She was a member of Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Whitford loved the outdoors, gardening, sewing, knitting and cross stitch. She loved to eat out with her sisters and visit family.

    Mrs. Whitford is survived by her two sons: Murray R. Whitford and wife Peggy and Louis A. Whitford and wife Mary all of Washington; her daughter: Wilma Kay Whitford of Washington; her grandchildren: Mike Whitford, Lisa Silva, Terry Brown, Ryan Whitford and Bradley Whitford; ten great grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by 15 siblings.

    The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM on Saturday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
