    Mrs. Ora Mae Sawyer Russ, age 93, a resident of Pungo Village, Belhaven, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington.

    A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, July 13, 2017 at West Belhaven Church of Christ in Belhaven. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Thursday at the church and other times at her home.

    Mrs. Russ was born in Ransomville, N.C. on July 14, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Fred Thomas Sawyer and Fannie Marslender Sawyer. Mrs. Russ was a homemaker. She was a member of West Belhaven Church of Christ and former member of the Adult Sunday School Class. In her spare time, Mrs. Russ enjoyed collecting baby dolls.

    On March 20, 1941, she married Edward Beryl Russ, who preceded her in death, May 11, 1997.

    Mrs. Russ is survived by her children, Edward Wayne Russ, Sr. and wife, Joan of Bath, Thomas Grey Russ, Sr. and wife, Winnie of Brookville, FL, Marilyn Russ Wallace and husband, Mac of Pinetown; and Ronald Lloyd Russ of Belhaven; one sister, Freddie Sawyer Leftwich of Salem, VA; 10 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

    In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Russ was preceded in death by one son, Lanny Beryl Russ; five brothers, two sisters, and one great-great grandchild.
