    Mary Rose "Mary" Slugay Lejman, 91, of Croatan Village in New Bern, died peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2017.

    Mary was born on February 3, 1926 in Braddock, PA and spent much of her youth in Jackson, MI. She loved God above all, her family, her many friends over the years, her Polish heritage, and all things sports-related, especially gymnastics, dating from her years as a gymnastics coach. Until Alzheimer's disease claimed her, she remained active and interested in her family and friends, always found fun in spotting a bargain, and never forgot a birthday or special occasion.

    The family celebrated her life with a graveside service on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC.

    Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barbara L. Shutak and husband Michael of Morehead City, Patricia A. Lejman and Pamela A. Lejman of Wake Forest, and Ann Marie Grubbs and husband Chris of Winston-Salem; grandson Michael A. Shutak of Morehead City; and sister-in-law Irene V. Lejman of High Point.

    She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Edwin J. Lejman; brothers, Stanley Slugay and Edward Slugay; sister, Irene V. Canfield; and sisters-in-law, Myra Slugay, Margaret Slugay, and Harriet Mile.
