Mr. Herman Carroll Austin, a resident of 31027 N.C. Highway 33 East, Campbell’s Creek Community, Aurora, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Grantsbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

   Mr. Herman Carroll Austin, a resident of 31027 N.C. Highway 33 East, Campbell’s Creek Community, Aurora, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Grantsbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

   A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Campbell’s Creek United Methodist Church with the Reverends George Jones and Leslie Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

   Mr. Austin was born in the Campbell’s Creek community July 7, 1924. He was the son of the late George Clarence Austin and Lora Smithwick Austin. He is survived by his wife, Kay Harden Austin, of the home and two sons, David Carroll Austin, and Scott Herman Austin and wife Melissa Ambrose Austin, all of Aurora and two grandchildren, Bethany Caroline Austin and Garrett Scott Austin.

   He graduated from Aurora High School and was a retired farmer and real estate broker. Mr. Austin served in the past as a director of the Beaufort County Soil and Water Conservation District and was a state treasurer of the N.C. Soil and Water Conservation Districts. He was a former Beaufort County Community College Trustee and former member of the Tideland EMC Board of Directors. He was a member of Aurora Masonic Lodge No. 300 and the New Bern Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a member of Campbell’s Creek United Methodist Church.

   Mr. Austin was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Weldon Austin, Odell Cornelius Austin, and George Clarence Austin, and a sister, Edith Austin.

   The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other time at his home.

   Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Campbell’s Creek United Methodist Church, 30323 Hwy 33 East, Aurora, NC 27806.
