Jones Continues Fight to Drain the Swamp | Eastern NC Now

    WASHINGTON, DC     This past month, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) cosponsored five bills to increase Congressional integrity and accountability, and released the following statement:

    "Being a member of Congress should be about serving the people, not yourself or the special interests," said Congressman Jones. "The American people should not have to worry about members of Congress using their positions to set themselves up for lucrative lobbyist jobs, or using taxpayer dollars to live the high life. I am proud to cosponsor legislation to help drain the swamp, and I hope all of my colleagues join in these efforts."

    Background:

• H.R. 346, the Congressional Integrity Act - this bill would ban former members of Congress (House or Senate) from lobbying other members, officers, or employees of either chamber of Congress for 5 years after the member leaves Congress.
• H.R. 3504, the Public Service Integrity Act - this bill would extend the lobbying ban placed on former members of Congress and senior staff, and lower the income threshold from the application of the ban for staffers.
• H.R. 3505 - this bill would prohibit members of Congress and senior congressional employees who lobby on behalf of foreign governments from being eligible for any federal benefits resulting from their service on Capitol Hill.
• H.R. 4509, the No Congressional First Class Flights Act - this bill would prohibit the use of congressional funds to pay for airline accommodations above the lowest fare of coach-class accommodations for members of Congress.
• H.R. 4510, the No Congressional Vehicle Leases Act - this bill would prohibit the use of congressional funds to pay for long-term or expensive vehicle leases for members of Congress.
