To put it simply, bound delegates are "bound" by their state's choice in the primary or caucus process when the nominating convention rolls around. In other words, if a bound delegate is assigned to Donald Trump in one of the upcoming Super Tuesday primaries, that delegate will have to support Trump at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, this July. Pledged or unbound delegates, on the other hand, are only loosely committed to their state's preferences, though they often do tend to stick with those preferences.

Something about your map triggered a few memory SYNAPSES in my mind. I did not have to research far to find the connection. Long ago "There was a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields" (Gone with the Wind) before the North invaded that sacred territory called the South, there was a similar map showing the divisions within the land mass of North America.



You and I were raised in that part of the country where "Forget Hell" and "The South will rise Again" were the losers lament. While I have never felt any kinship to the extremely flawed underpinnings of the Southern economy, I must admit that I gain some satisfaction with the creeping invasion of the North by the States formerly known as the Confederacy. It appears that the Redish states are creeping into the blue eminent domain slowly but surely in the 2016 map at top. And to think it took a confirmed Yankee from New York to begin the transformation.

Is this a great country or WHAT?

Trump won both Popular and Electoral in all Red States. Huge California Popular Hillary Vote skews the math. She got those electoral votes. Delete California for the correct view. Correct me if wrong.

Political parties nominate electors at their state conventions. The electors are usually state-elected officials, party leaders, or people with a strong affiliation with the Presidential candidates.
