A scholary discussion of the man
Regardless if you believe that Diogenes actually walked around with a lantern looking for an honest man or not, it has become the measuring point used for those of us who occasionally dip into the Cliché end of the pool.
I myself have been on a search for honest facts and I have access to an almost limitless pool of research, clichés, fake news, tables, facts, fiction, opinions and empirical data. It finally occurred to me that the flaw of Diogenes was not that he could not find an honest man but that he could not find someone who agreed with him 100% of the time.
Having not found that kindred soul he passed away in 323 BC (aged about 89). It is fitting that we think we know the year he passed but not exactly the age. It is also fitting that there are conflicting stories about how and why he passed.
"There are conflicting accounts of Diogenes' death. He is alleged variously to have held his breath; to have become ill from eating raw octopus; or to have suffered an infected dog bite. When asked how he wished to be buried, he left instructions to be thrown outside the city wall so wild animals could feast on his body. When asked if he minded this, he said, "Not at all, as long as you provide me with a stick to chase the creatures away!" When asked how he could use the stick since he would lack awareness, he replied "If I lack awareness, then why should I care what happens to me when I am dead?"[At the end, Diogenes made fun of people's excessive concern with the "proper" treatment of the dead. The Corinthians erected to his memory a pillar on which rested a dog of Parian marble." --- Who was Diogenes - WIKI
For the past few years, I been searching for the truth using my ever present Remote and Keyboard and having not found it, I give up the search. I doubt that my eventual termination will be due to octopus or dogs, but I will share eternity along with Diogenes in the knowledge (see quote above) that we both will not care about our lack of awareness.
This is not my first effort to channel Diogenes.------ Searching for the truth in Braselton, Ga
Some may not believe this but I rarely wear a hat except for jokes, veteran events or weather. Having said that I probably have over 40 hats with various sayings or jokes collected over the years. Most of the evidence has been sprinkled across the articles on BCN. Ball caps replaced golf balls when the advertising budget hit a snag. I have a large collection of the company trinkets but probably only have 30% of all we had over the 40 years I was there.

I wear toboggans often. I use them to wear less clothes when outside, since they conserve more integral heat than any other article of clothing.
At some point, once I get the sales flowing as a one man marketing force, I will get some SNI ball caps. They well look great (trust me), and I will give you one. |
Hats are made on demand, but the toboggan i think was a limited quantity run.

Thanks B.T. I still had my heart set on the toboggan.

I love that image B.T. Great post; I need an Old Man toboggan.

You know what would make a really cool series of posts: The 40 ball caps /hats of Bobby Tony, but with Bobby Tony underneath each hat revealing its true theme.
