The Military has a simple 10 week method to determine mental health ... called boot camp. You can take the average draftee and abuse him for 2 years and give him the opportunity to fight for his life then return him to an ungrateful civilian population and he will adapt and fit back in.

About 3 million American soldiers were in-country Vietnam and approximately 1 million served in combat; 58,000 killed; 300,000 were wounded; approximately 250,000 have PTSD. Wounded Soldiers survey shows 75% have PTSD.

The total incarceration rate in 2012 for veterans (855 per 100,000 veterans in the United States) was lower than the rate for nonveterans (968 per 100,000 U.S. residents).

Using old Vietnam Vets as a control group might give civilians direction in identifying troubled dangerous teenagers. The military recruiters filter out the felons and non-qualified then boot camp gives a stress test. Approximately 300,000 teenage draftees experienced combat. My numbers are laptop estimates that need verification. Correct me if wrong.

Conclusion: In my unqualified opinion, the average vet- unless severely wounded-does not need society's help. Psychologists need to investigate causes of teenage metal health issues and I doubt micro-aggressions or rejection by pretty girls is the cause.

Most of the time, friends and relatives know their kids need help. Let's start there.
