Press Release:

Greenville, North Carolina     Washington DC lobbyist Scott Dacey was served with a Cease and Desist Order from lawyers representing the campaign of Congressman Walter Jones last week for a television ad that was intentionally false and misleading. As Dacey has failed to pull the ad off the air, the next legal step has been taken.

On Monday, attorneys delivered a letter on behalf of Congressman Jones requesting a formal investigation be opened that will put a stop to the ad that has been discredited by journalists on the local, state and national levels.

"Scott Dacey is running a Washington style smear campaign paid for with Washington money. It might be OK to lie to voters in his world but not in Eastern North Carolina. I won't stand for it" Congressman Jones said after signing his name to the letter on Monday. "This isn't just about Mr. Dacey. It's about honest and ethical campaigning as a whole. The people of our area and our great Republic expect and deserve better."

The television ad in question has made headlines across the nation as journalists have questioned the Dacey campaigns claims that Jones had received over $80,000 from liberal activist George Soros. News outlets have investigated the claims and concluded that there is no such link, with some references calling it an invention and others being even more blunt, referring to it as a lie.

The Dacey campaign has sought to explain why they had a staffer give a $1 contribution to the Walter Jones campaign through a George Soros website in an attempt to link Jones with contributions from Soros. The staffer, Ryan Kane, is listed as Dacey's media & digital director and his name actually appears as the contact person at the top of the Dacey press release about the ad.

Jones stated, "as a lobbyist for gambling and casinos, Scott Dacey has made his living under the rules of money can get you what. I live my life by a different set of values. I will pursue every legal recourse until the truth prevails."

Dacey was notified of the Cease and Desist Order last Wednesday and has yet to respond or to remove the ad . Attached is a copy of the original order and today's request to the District Attorney.
