    Mr. George Edward Smith, 73, of Cypress Landing, Chocowinity, N.C., died June 12, 2018 at his home.

    A native of Portsmouth, VA, Mr. Smith was born on September 3, 1944 to Nettie J. and Frank G. Smith, who predeceased him. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Kay Harris Smith, of the home; his two sons, Todd Smith and Tschudy Smith of San Jose, California, and Troy Smith and Jennifer Smith of Pinetown, N.C.; his five grandsons, Tyler and Trevor Smith, and Colten, Jackson, and Greyson Smith; his sister, Patricia Smith Hall and her husband, Wayne of Chesapeake, VA; and his brother in law, James A. Harris, Jr. and his wife Selba of Jefferson, Georgia. He loved and enjoyed his nephews and nieces.

    Mr. Smith graduated from Churchland High School Class of 1963, Portsmouth, VA and remained very close with his classmates and cherished their lifelong friendships. He attended Engineering School at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

    Mr. Smith worked at Hankins and Anderson, Consulting Engineering Firm, Richmond, VA; and retired from Philip Morris USA as an Engineering Project Manager, Richmond, Va. He served on the Board of Directors of Ronald McDonald House, Richmond, VA; boards within the Cypress Landing Community; and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Washington, N.C.

    A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, June 16, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Washington, N.C. with the Rev. Ken Hall officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Wesley Hall at the church.

    The family wishes to thank Mr. Smith's personal caregivers and Asera Care Hospice of Greenville for their care and support.
