NCACC Statement on NC House Speaker Tim Moore's Support for a Public Education Bond

Wake County, N.C.     Today, Kevin Leonard, Executive Director of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) released the following statement in response to the recent announcement by Rep. Tim Moore, the Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, that he intends to file legislation to put a $1.9 billion public education bond on the ballot in 2020.

"The recent announcement by Speaker Moore to file legislation in 2019 for a public education bond is great news for counties. It demonstrates progress toward our counties' longstanding goal to seek a state school construction bond and strengthen the county-state partnership for public school facility funding. On behalf of the Association, we thank Speaker Moore for his leadership on this issue and we welcome the opportunity to work with him and other leaders in the General Assembly, Governor Cooper, and other stakeholders to assist in developing the details needed to finalize the funding plan. The NCACC also commends the Speaker for his commitment to travel the state, visiting our 100 counties, to support a public education bond. It's important to see firsthand what the $8.1 billion K-12 school capital need looks like, and counties throughout North Carolina stand ready to work with the leaders of our state to address this critically important issue." said Kevin Leonard, NCACC Executive Director.

About the NCACC: The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) is the official voice of all 100 counties on issues being considered by the General Assembly, Congress and federal and state agencies. The Association provides expertise to counties in the areas of advocacy, research, risk management and education and leadership training.
