The good news...75% of gunshot wounds are not fatal; bad news...police are not required to offer medical assistance; doctors are seldom by-standers. If you carry guns, it is a good idea to have your own trauma kit and know as much as possible about self-help.

I ordered several items from Amazon for the first aid kit. I injured myself several times at the range with "slide bite" and various skin pinches with semi-auto pistols. A few hot shell casings hit from neighboring shooters. In younger hunting days, my cohorts nearly wounded me. Do not tell me this never happened to you.

Conclusion: The Chicago video taught me that policemen are not required to give aid and they may ask good Samaritans to leave a crime scene. The Medic video shows fast and dirty quick action that may be best while waiting for the ambulance.

Caution: Like everything else, there are legal questions to be answered before trying to be an EMT.

A simple poncho can be used as a tent, water catcher, or trap as well as a medical evac-stretcher. As Bedford Forrest might have put it, "Doing the mostest with the leastest."

www.youtube.com Israeli Bandage video. A combat VN vet carried one bandage similar to this. His rifle sling was used as a tourniquet. The Medic had a complete trauma kit.

Almost every old man I know carries Band Aids in his Wallet. Some have more Band Aids than money since the credit card has become the de-facto currency of today. Many years from now when they dig up my neighborhood, I suspect they will say " Well he was broke for a Doctor!" For that reason, I always carry both money and band aids because I want some future Archaeologist to say. "What are those green pieces of paper?"
