Born: June 10, 1931, Died: February 17, 2019

    Mrs. Leona Kline Brown Harris Pugh, age 87, a resident of 29 Mt. Pleasant Village Road, Engelhard, NC died Sunday February 17, 2019 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital of Washington.

    A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday February 21, 2019 at Watsons Chapel United Methodist Church in Engelhard. The service will be officiated by Rev. Jerald Craddock. A private burial will be at a later date.

    The family will receive friends at the home.

    Mrs. Pugh was born in Hyde County on June 10, 1931, daughter of the late Carney Belk Brown and the late Phebe Irene Carawan Brown. She was a 1949 graduate of Swan Quarter High School. On June 6, 1948 she married William Edgar Harris who preceded her in death on January 12, 1963. On December 13, 1966 she married Joseph Madison Pugh who preceded her in death on May 11, 1999. Mrs. Pugh worked at NASA at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, VA. When she moved back to her native Hyde County she worked at George Thomas Davis Law office before becoming the owner operator of Jo Lee Ceramics. Mrs. Pugh considered her most important job being a homemaker for her family. She was a Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, Hyde County Chapter and a member of Watsons Chapel United Methodist Church.

    Survivors include three sons: William Wayne Harris (Karen) of Trinity, NC, Barry Harris of Baltimore, MD and Joseph M. Pugh (Teresa) of Engelhard; a sister: Connie Gibbs (Clyde) of Pinetown; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Pugh was predeceased by a daughter: Connie Allene Pugh; a son: Ken Harris, Sr. and two grandchildren: Diana Carol Harris and Ken Harris, Jr.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorial contributions be made to Watsons Chapel United Methodist Church c/o Pamela Berry, 225 Goshen Road, Engelhard, NC 27824.
