Greenville, North Carolina     Early Monday morning State Representative Dr. Greg Murphy formally announced his intentions to run for North Carolina's 3rd Congressional Seat, formally held by the late Walter B. Jones Jr. with a kickoff to an entire day of campaign events.

Dr. Murphy told an enthusiastic crowd of supporters and a contingent of local media that "My life has about service and I am offering myself up for another opportunity to serve, this time the people of North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District".

Murphy told the crowd about his passion for service that started at a very young age and manifested itself in service organizations, his decision to become a doctor, his work as a medical missionary and most recently, as a public servant.

As the only physician in the State Legislature, Murphy's campaign theme was "It's Good to Have a Doctor in the House". Murphy said although he wants to serve in the House of Representatives, his campaign message will center around "We the People".

"I was inspired by a renewed study of the Constitution and the wisdom of our Founding Fathers" Murphy said. "The rest of the world was setting up governments that had documents detailing the power they gave to the people. The Constitution instead limited the power of government and assured the power of the people. We the People aren't just the big print in the Constitution. It's the big concept that shook the world". Dr. Murphy referred to where he stood on the issues as his "We the People Platform" and said the Constitution and its Conservative principles of lower taxes, less government and more individual liberty would guide his tenure in Congress.

Murphy's speech centered on moving power away from Washington and to the people of Eastern North Carolina, saying "the answers to our nation's problems lie with its people, not with government programs." Murphy went on to say "If I am fortunate enough to serve as your Congressman, I would hope at the end of my tenure you wouldn't look toward government programs that were created while I served but instead to government waste that was eliminated while I served. I would hope that at the end of my service, people could look at their own lives and say they have more control over their money, less government in their life and more freedom to live out the American dream".

Finally, Murphy noted his independent streak when going against the Republican leadership during his time in the State Legislature. He said he would have a similar attitude in Washington. "I'm very passionate about doing the right thing and truth be told, I get even more passionate when I think those who are supposed to share our Conservative, limited government values, tend to stray" Murphy told the crowd.

He concluded with the promise that "my vote will never be turned over to any person or Party. It belongs to the People... We the People".

Murphy had campaign stops planned in 6 locations starting at 7am and ending well into the night. He left the crowd with the promise that "It won't be easy, but I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work. I have done so my entire life so I know no other way. I hope you'll join me and together, we can take steps to make sure the American dream of our Founding Fathers is still attainable for our children and grandchildren."
