Computer Skills, Small Business Classes Coming Up at BCCC | Eastern North Carolina Now

    BCCC has classes coming up to help students find work, move ahead at work or grow their small business. These classes are free for those who are unemployed or underemployed.     HRD: Working with MS Word

    This class will help develop students' technology skills and help them become more familiar with computer technology. They will learn the basics of how to operate a PC and become more familiar with Microsoft Word to enhance your professional skill set. This class will start on March 11 and take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings. The fee is waived for qualifying individuals.

    HRD: Pathway to Bank Teller Careers

    This class is designed for individuals interested in becoming bank tellers and cashiers. Topics in this course include the role of the bank teller, handling checks, processing transactions, cash balancing and handling, bank services, bank security and providing quality customer service. It will provide students with the necessary skills to be competitive and ready to take on challenges within this profession. This class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings starting March 12. The fee is waived for qualifying individuals.

    HRD: Computers in the Workplace

    Students will learn how to effectively use Microsoft Office software in the workplace. Microsoft Word will be taught during the first session. Stu­dents will learn how to create, edit and save MS Word documents. Microsoft PowerPoint will be taught during the second session. Students will learn to create dynamic slide presentations that include enhancements such as animation, narration and images. Microsoft Excel will be covered during the third session. Students will learn how to store, organize and analyze information in spreadsheets. Microsoft Access will be taught during the fourth session. Students will learn how to create and manage databases. This class will meet from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday starting March 25. The fee is waived for qualifying individuals.

    Developing and Implementing a Social Media Plan and Policy (For prospective and current small business owners)

    This course for business owners is designed to develop a social media plan and reduce their liability by having a social media policy. The seminar will discuss how to create and manage a social media plan and policy; constructing a social media plan and policy using a template and checklist; platforms, posting frequency, content, who will post, and whether social media activities include email marketing and website updates; how having a plan and policy contributes to better employee buy-in; and brand consistency and loyalty. Participants will leave the seminar with the following: an understanding of key items to consider in developing a social media plan and policy, next steps in implementing a social media plan and policy, and adjusting the plan and policy based on results.

    This free seminar will take place on Thursday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ocracoke Community Center.

    Mastering Google for More Business Success

    Participants will learn to maximize all the free resources for business that Google has to offer; get "found" on Google by your right customers; get more business with Google Adwords Express; gain more business using YouTube and learn to track and expand their success with Google Analytics.

    Martin Brossman is a leading authority on social media and online marketing. He is a business coach, consultant and a dynamic trainer known for his insight and humor. A member of the National Speakers Bureau, Martin is a popular speaker on social media topics. He teaches at North Carolina community college Small Business Centers throughout the state.

    This free seminar will take place on March 29.
