    Mr. Donald Lee Bennett, Sr., age 82, a resident of New Bern, died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Pruitt Health of New Bern.

    Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Oakdale Cemetery, officiated by Travis Boyd.

    Mr. Bennett was born in Beaufort County on December 31, 1936, son of the late Leonidas Bennett, Sr. and Neva Doughty Bennett. He was a 1954 graduate of Aurora School and received his bachelor's degree from Atlantic Christian College. He taught for eight years at Warrenton High School and then five years at Rose High School. He left the education field and retired from the former Texas Gulf as a transportation superintendent. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in New Bern.

    On January 17, 1959, he married the former Marcia Guilford who preceded him in death on April 6, 2019.

    Mr. Bennett is survived by his son: Don Bennett, Jr. and wife Kim of Trent Woods; his grandchildren: Kelsey Bennett, Aaron Bennett and Tate Bennett; his brother: Lee Bennett of Edward and his sister: Dorothy Bonner of Edward. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his son: Todd Bennett and his sister: Pat Benjamin.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.
