Greenville Set to Groove Again at Annual Festival | Eastern NC Now

    GREENVILLE, N.C.     The City of Greenville's annual celebration of African American Music Appreciation Month returns this week to the Greenville Town Common.

    The Sixth Annual Greenville Grooves Music Festival will be held on Friday, June 14, from 6-9 p.m. Headlining this year's event will once again be Carroll Dashiell, a world-renowned musician and bandleader, professor at East Carolina University's School of Music, as well as the founder and director of the Dr. Billy Taylor Jazz Festival at ECU which honors his mentor's legacy each year. Dashiell and the CVD Band will keep the crowd moving with a delightful mix of Motown and R&B hits.


    Joining Dashiell at this year's event is The Beast, an innovative and electrifying hip hop and jazz ensemble out of Durham that is known for pushing creative boundaries and dynamic collaborations. Additionally, this year's event will feature a spoken word act to kick off the event, a cultural marketplace, and some of the best street eats and sweet treats from local vendors.

    Greenville is on the African American Music Trail of Eastern North Carolina and hosts this free annual music festival each year to celebrate African-American Music Appreciation Month first established in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter. Greenville Grooves continues to draw a wonderfully diverse crowd of music lovers of all ages to Uptown Greenville for an evening of jams, dancing, food, and good company.
