Wylie "Gator" Roper | Eastern NC Now

    Mr. Wylie Allen "Gator" Roper, age 74, a resident of Bath, NC died Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

    A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday August 15, 2019 at Athens Chapel Church of Christ, 3407 NC Hwy. 92 East, Bath, NC 27808. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington. The service will be officiated by Chris Hux.

    Mr. Roper was born in Portsmouth, VA on February 19, 1945 son of the late Gilbert Roper and the late Helen Louise Williams. He received his associate degree as a machinist from Beaufort County Community College. He was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed being a commercial fisherman who hunted in the past. In his spare time, he loved being involved in his church, Athens Chapel Church of Christ, activities especially visiting the sick and homebound members. Mr. Roper also enjoyed woodworking.

    Survivors include two daughters: Tammy Roper Russell of Southern Shores, NC and Crystal Roper Haddock and her husband Chris of Jamesville; two sisters: Doris Paul of Sladesville and Angela Felton of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren: Krystina Haddock, Christopher Haddock, Katlyn Haddock, Madison Haddock and Landon Russell and three great grandchildren: Lainey Arnold, Tripp Hollis and Lily Price.
