Mrs. Evelyn Latham Tripp | Eastern North Carolina Now

   Mrs. Evelyn Latham Tripp, age 94, a resident of 403 Willows Court, Washington, died Sunday April 29, 2012 at her home.

   Graveside services will be 11:00 am Tuesday May 1, 2012 at Oakdale Cemetery and will be conducted by Rev. Danny Allen. The family will receive friends following the service at the fellowship hall at the First United Methodist Church.

   Mrs. Tripp was born in Beaufort County on March 18, 1918 to the late Jesse L. and Sarah “Bess” Mills Latham. On August 1, 1962 she married Richard W. Tripp and became the beloved mother of five children for fifty years. She was formerly employed in civil service with the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. during World War II. Following the war she moved to Greenville, NC and established the Merle Norman Studio in Greenville which she owned and operated until her marriage. Mrs. Tripp was a long standing member of the First United Methodist Church and the Lucille Carter Circle.

   Survivors include one son, Richard W. Tripp, Jr. and wife Marshall of El Paso, TX, four daughters: Sylvia Tripp of Greenville; Linda Poore and husband Larry of Bath; Patricia “Trish” Winrow and husband Gary of Ft. Meyers, FL; Laura Smithwick and husband Oswald “Ozzie” of Washington; nephew William L. “Buzz” Cayton of Washington; nieces Jessica Collins Moore of Wakefield, VA and Sara Collins Kushner of San Rafael, CA; twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, sisters; Hallene Latham Cayton, Zelma Latham Collins; and the mother of her children, Leggette Trueblood Tripp. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made the charity of one’s choice.
