    Nelda Marie Ward Newman, age 74, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Thursday April 30, 2020 at her home.

    A private graveside service will be held at the Lacy Norman Downs Cemetery in Chocowinity and will be conducted by D.J. Maxey.

    Mrs. Newman was born in Beaufort County on August 15, 1945 to the late Marshall Floyd Ward and Maude Bright Ward. On February 14, 1981, she married Robert W. Newman who survives. She was a graduate of Chocowinity High School and a retired accountant. Mrs. Newman was a member of Haw Branch Church of Christ.

    In addition to her husband, survivors include; a daughter, Lacey N. Huband and husband Matthew of Chesterfield, VA; a son, Michael R. Newman; two grandchildren, Caitlyn Huband, Hayden Newman; three sisters, Jean Hutto of Dallas TX, Norleen Brinson of Washington, Lucille Ward and husband George of Chocowinity, and a brother, Donald " Buddy" Ward of Chocowinity.

    She is preceded in death by a sister, Linda Cochran, and a brother, Richard Ward.
