August Online Workshops to Start & Advertise a Small Business | Eastern NC Now

    WASHINGTON, N.C.     Beaufort County Community College's Small Business Center has online workshops coming up, including one to help deal with the COVID-19 shutdown and others to help build or start a strong small business. Three of these workshops will be led by David Mayo, a faculty member teaching in the field of entrepreneurship and the Director of the Entrepreneurship Center in the Miller School of Entrepreneurship at East Carolina University.     Through Reboot Rebuild Recover, small business owners and self-employed people can also sign up for free advising from local professionals to help with a range of topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic. A few hours a week of advising can help businesses navigate relevant marketing, funding and bookkeeping topics. Contact Continuing Education to sign up.

    How to Start a Small Business     David Mayo will answer questions like: Are you ready to start a business? What are the advantages and disadvantages of a new business? Where do I obtain permits and licenses? What tax information is needed and where do I find it? How do I maintain objectivity? This free online seminar runs from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3.

    How to Write a Business Plan     Starting a small business is a huge step for anyone. David Mayo will help students with the fundamentals of writing a business plan, the foundation for success when making a decision to start a new business or acquire an existing business. It is key when it comes to seeking funds for a business. This free online seminar runs from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17.

    Positioning Your Business for Post Pandemic Success     How to plan, prepare, and execute the re-opening of your business for success in our new reality. Minimize your liability risk, make your customers feel safe, effectively market your business, and keep costs down. We will include real-world small business examples that inspire participants to take action immediately. The question is not how do we get back to normal but how to thrive in the new reality! This is a dynamic class that will be upgraded during the different phases of opening to suit your area. This free online seminar was developed and will be taught by Martin Brossman and Jeanne Munoz. It will take place on Thursday, August 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

    Marketing and Advertising for Your Business     Drawing attention to your business is tougher than ever before. Large chain stores, a challenging economy, the Internet, etc. have made the small business venture often times frustrating. BUT you can take matters into your hands and discover what you can do to bring customers to you. In this seminar David Mayo will teach low cost advertising/marketing strategies and methods, creating a marketing plan, scoring greater sales with current customers, and other "tricks" of the trade. This free online seminar runs from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31.
