    PINETOWN, NC — The Reverend Doctor Donald Frederick Hammond age 84, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the Vidant Medical Center of Greenville, NC.

    Rev. Dr. Hammond was born on August 8, 1936 to the late Frederick Hammond and Helen O'Boyle Hammond in Poughkeepsie, NY.

    Dr. Hammond was the Assistant Dean of Arts and Letters at the Old Dominion University Norfolk, VA before attending the Union Seminary in Richmond VA, where he received his Master of Divinity Degree. His path led him to become the founder of a non-profit food sharing program, S.H.A.R.E. in Norfolk VA, responsible for feeding 10, 000 families monthly. The organizations' monitored community service requirement was the only requirement to participate. The motto was "If you eat; you qualify." Dr. Hammond was also juried in as a founding artist-in residence at the D.A.R.T Center in downtown Norfolk, where he taught and also displayed award winning wood sculptures.

    Donald was a loving husband, father, and friend that will be deeply missed.

    Donald is survived by his devoted wife, Jean, and two sons, Blair Hammond and Wade Hammond, and all those he touched.
