    Mr. Francis Samuel "Sam" Coffield, age 75, a resident of the Clarks Neck Community, died Thursday November 26, 2020 at his home.

    The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 28, 2020 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

    Mr. Coffield was born in Martin County on February 10, 1946 to the late James Lloyd Coffield and Aurelia Harrington Coffield. He was a high school graduate of Oak City. He served in the Army during Vietnam. He worked for Buchman Auto Sales and even ran a Texaco Station in the 70's-80's. Mr. Coffield enjoyed riding around the yard on a scooter or lawn mower, sitting on the porch listening to the rain, watching the wildlife. He enjoyed baseball, played for the Hamilton Warriors and watching his sons play baseball. Mr. Coffield was a family man, a jokester and loved people. He served as the Mayor of Hamilton from 1980-1984, was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He loved his grandkids, singing and was known as a big flirt. His most famous saying is "I resent.. I mean resemble that"

    Survivors include his wife Betty Lue Coffield, five sons, Sean W. Coffield of South Port, Anthony (Andy) D. Coffield of Williamston, James B. Coffield of Rocky Mount, Timothy R. Coffield of Princeton, Nicholas D. Coffield of New York, NY, two daughters, Ashley A Coffield and Kala M. Coffield both of Washington, thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Elizabeth A. Coffield of Tarboro, Joyce Sherill Wobbleton of Boone, and a brother Henry W. Coffield of Windsor.
